The Best Man

John 3:29-10 He who has the bride is the Bridegroom; but the friend of the Bridegroom, who stands and hears Him, rejoices greatly because of the Bridegroom’s Voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.  He must increase, but I must decrease.

At weddings, the groom chooses a close friend to stand with him. This person is called the “best man.” This tradition comes from the Passage of Scripture noted above, but it also pertains to all those in the Ministry of the Gospel of Christ.

The best man at a wedding is to lift up and protect the groom. He is to stay with him every step of the way until the wedding is over.

Likewise, all ministers of the Gospel are to lift up the Name of Jesus (the Bridegroom) and let His Voice be heard, not theirs. We must decrease so He can increase. Ministry is not about us. It’s all about Jesus and what He did on the Cross of Calvary.

We often hear people talking about all the people they served food to, provided clothes, water, medical help, schooling, or other physical needs. In doing so, these people are drawing attention to themselves and not Jesus.

The best man ALWAYS stands back, behind the groom. The wedding is all about the groom and his bride, not about the attendants or people who are in attendance. The Church is the Bride of Christ, and everything should be all about the Bridegroom, Jesus. Without the Bridegroom, there is no wedding. When called as a minister of the Gospel of Christ, in effect, we become the best man, NOT the groom. Jesus said, If I be lifted up, I’ll draw all men to Me.

Every born-again believer in Christ is called to be Jesus’ best man. We all have some sort of ministry, and NONE of it is about us and what we are doing or have done. Without Jesus, we can do nothing. Without Jesus, we would have no ministry. It’s all about Him, what He is doing and has accomplished.

He did it ALL! He gave His All. His Name is the only name worthy to be lifted up. As you go about your ministry work, never lose sight of the fact that you are just the best man, not the Bridegroom. Then, you will happily declare the words of John, Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease.

Increasing Jesus will........turn the tide….....in your life.

Decreasing,      Doreen
