Sing A New Song

Habakkuk 3:3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His Glory covered the heavens and the Earth was full of His Praise.

The Third Chapter of Habakkuk is a continuation of the Prophetic Vision God gave Habakkuk. He begins by showing Habakkuk how beautiful and glorious He is.

Like many of the Psalms, the word “Selah” indicates that this Chapter is a song given to Habakkuk by the Lord.  It is refreshing to know that the Lord still gives us new songs to sing. Six times the writers speak of singing a new song in the Book of Psalms.

As bad as things may seem, the Lord will always bring a new song to the weary heart; a song of joy and praise to Him for His coming judgment.

Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. (Psalm 33:3)

He has put a new song in my mouth-Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear and will trust in the Lord. (Psalms 40:3)

Through the continued Vision, the Lord shows Habakkuk that indeed, judgment is coming. As this portion of the Vision begins, Habakkuk sees the Lord coming from Teman (which is another name for Sanai) and brings to our remembrance when the Lord led His children out of Israel. Also, Mount Paran is referring to Mount Sinai, where the Law was originally given to Moses.

God wants His people to rejoice and sing about the coming Judgment of the world. His Word speaks of this many times. We find joy in knowing that God will win in the end and He will bring Judgment to the lost and corrupt world.

In Psalm 98:1, we read, Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His Right Hand and His Holy Arm have gained Him the Victory.

Please notice it first says to sing a new song because He has done marvelous things by His Right Hand and His Holy Arm, which gave Him the Victory.

The Victory belongs to the Lord. The battle is His to fight and the Victory is His to gain. Our Victory is through Jesus Christ, who sits at God's Right Hand and who is His Holy Arm. There is no other source of Victory for the believer.

Habakkuk sings a new song as well, and it’s because of the coming Judgment of the Lord. Judgment is coming! God always delivers His people and then brings Judgment. In this fact, we can place our faith and sing a new song!

When the Lord brings judgment, He will……..turn the tide
