Keep Praying

Psalm 4:1 God, give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer.

The following is an excerpt from my book, “A Wave of the Baton.” It is one of the miraculous things God did in my life after the passing of my husband, Jack.

I had moved into my new home, and the preparation for Matt and Michelle’s home site was taking shape. It was late spring and I was having the landscaping done at my house. So much had transpired in the last ten months.

I woke up one Sunday morning with a start, and a horrible realization. Between building my home, going to Spokane, Washington for Joseph’s birth, and getting the home site ready for Matt and Michelle, I had completely forgotten about our cattle. I had not even looked at them for months.

As I lay in bed that morning, I knew the cows were going to start calving, and I didn’t have any help. I was afraid a lot of the young cows would have to have their calves pulled, and I was alone. I had helped Jack with the cows over the years, but I would not be able to do this by myself. All my cows were going to start calving, and what was I going to do?

I got dressed and went to church where I prayed through the whole service. I was worried sick over my cows. They had probably started to calve already, and some of them could be dead. The harder I prayed, the more I worried. After church I spoke to Pastor Tom about it, and he told me to keep praying, and God would send me the answer.

I went home and prayed all afternoon for an answer on my cows. I thought about driving to the back side of the ranch to see how many had already calved or died, but I didn’t have the heart to look.

I went back to church that night and prayed through another service. After church, my pastor asked me if I had received the answer to my dilemma. When I told him “No,” he simply said, “Keep praying, God will send you the answer.”

I was up half the night praying and worrying about the cows. What was I going to do? As I continued to pray, I could hear the moaning sound of off-key violas and cellos. They sounded like dying cattle drowning out my praying, pleading, and worrying.

When I got up the next morning, I had worried myself sick over the cows, and I felt horrible. I could hear Pastor Tom’s words in my head, “Keep praying; God will send you the answer.”

Did God hear my prayers? I will share that answer with you tomorrow. In the meantime, keep praying.

Prayer will.........turn the tide
